Are you ready for the perfect weekend in San Francisco? It’s the best place for week-long trips or a weekend getaway. This beautiful city offers chic hotels, Golden Gate Park, and fresh sea air all year round. Logan and I had the perfect weekend getaway in San Francisco this February. We were in the area celebrating my best friend Jenny getting married! This itinerary is so fun because I filled it with all the best spots in the city for you. There are enough activities to keep you busy all weekend, or even a week in San Francisco – however much time you have!
Here are some of the highlights and must-see spots we found during our Perfect Weekend in San Francisco
Best Time to Visit San Francisco
In San Francisco, the summers are long, comfortable, and mostly clear. While the winters are short, cold, wet, and partly cloudy. Over the year, the temperature varies from 45°F to 72°F and is rarely below 39°F or above 83°F.
The best time of year to visit San Francisco for great outdoor activities is from late June to early October. During the winter rainy season, the weather is unpredictable making it difficult to plan your outdoor adventures.
How to Get to San Francisco
Fly into San Francisco (SFO) International Airport & drive a rental car 30 minutes north to downtown San Francisco. You can also fly into the Oakland (OAK) International Airport, which is also around 30 minutes across the Bay Bridge. You can choose to rent a car or take public transportation.
Rent a Car
During our week in San Francisco, we decided not to rent a car, however, we regretted that decision after we paid hundreds of dollars on Lyft to get around the city. So I would recommend renting a car in San Francisco while you’re exploring.

He really liked the course and I enjoyed a successful hike through the woods without getting my new shoes dirty.

I wish I’d known about Japantown the last time I was in San Fran! There is just so much to do, I can’t wait to go back. Thanks for sharing!
Great post! I have only been to San Francisco once and I was surprised how cool it was in the summer. I would love to go back and will check out some of the hiking trails you mentioned. Thank you!
Yea Golden Gate Park is HUGE, and offers so much to do – the hiking trails are just north of it so very easily accessible.
We’ve actually never been to San Fransisco. It’s still on our list! Thanks for all the ideas!
You should go! It’s such a cool city to explore, very unique.
What a great weekend itinerary! Last time in San Francisco I have missed the Japanese Tea Garden, so hope to visit the city again in the nearest future!
Great post! I have only been to SF once and it was years ago. I need to stay for a day or two next time I go to Napa. Will absolutely be renting a bike and checking out the botanical garden.
I lived in San Francisco for years. A great relaxing spot is the Palace of Fine Arts and I love to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge
Oooh I was already thinking this looked like a pretty good weekend, (the cycling, the art, gardens and Japantown…) but then you added in hikes! Now that makes this a brilliant weekend!
Lol I’m glad we’re not the only mad folks that get to a new city and straight away work out how to escape the urban parts to go for a hike.
We always seek out nature when we travel, we’re just drawn to it haha even amid a large city.
It’s the best way 🙂
Hiring a bike to cycle around all the attractions sounds like a great way to see San Fran! Looks like you had a fab time – I’d love the hiking trails i reckon.
The hiking trails in San Francisco were surprisingly beautiful! I highly recommend them 🙂
