Some destinations guarantee a good time. On a trip to NYC all you need to do is show up, and you can be sure that you’ll have the experience that you expected. That’s the case with those all-inclusive resorts in tropical destinations — unless anything drastic happens, you’ll be sure you’ll get what you paid for.
New York isn’t quite like that. You have to work a little to have an awesome trip to NYC. After all, this is a city, and without some careful planning, it’s more than easy to get lost in the abyss. Happily, if you make the effort, then New York can well and truly deliver an experience that’s out of this world. In this post, I’ll run through some simple tips that can elevate the quality of your trip.
Go on Your Trip to NYC At the Perfect Time
There’s not one New York that you can visit. There are four. The city has distinct seasons, and they have a big impact on the overall feel of the city. While everyone has their preferences, most people will find that late Spring is the best time to visit. At that time, the weather is just about perfect, there are plenty of activities, and the city shows its best face. Unless you’re watching the pennies, it’s best to avoid visiting in January or February.
Select a Smooth Journey
Most people only visit New York for a few days. As such, you’ll want to get ready to hit the ground running once you land. You don’t want to spend your first day just recovering from your journey to the city. So look at making your arrival to New York as smooth as possible. That means choosing a direct flight and then thinking about how you’ll make it downtown — it often makes sense to work with a JFK or LaGuardia Airport car limo service company so that you can arrive at your hotel as soon as possible after you land. Basically, it’s all about maximizing the time you can spend enjoying all the attractions and highlights the city provides.
Stay as Central as Possible
On your trip to NYC you can save money by staying just outside of the city, but there’s a reason for that — you’ll be outside of the city. If you’re only visiting for a few days, then do yourself a favor and book accommodation in Manhattan. Aside from providing easy access to all of the city’s outstanding attractions, it’ll also save plenty of travel time and allow you to soak up the atmosphere of the city.
Where to Stay in New York City

Moxy NYC Lower East Side

The Dominick Hotel
Five Diamonds from AAA, this hotel is great for couples on a romantic getaway.
Increase Your Budget
Finally, consider putting some money in your travel fund. It’s very much possible to visit New York on a budget, but you’ll have more fun if you’re willing to splurge here and there. Some of the world’s best bars, restaurants, stores, and attractions are found in the Big Apple, and you won’t want to miss out all because you were watching your budget a little too closely. Treat yourself — you won’t regret it.

Visited a few year ago and loved staying near Times Square to be convenient to things. Hope to return one of these days for Christmas.
oh Christmas time would be beautiful with the giant tree!
With NYC, like many popular cities, it’s all about location! Being central is key! great advice!
These are some excellent tips! I visited New York once when I was younger, but I’d love to plan a return trip. I’ll be sure to keep your tips in mind – thanks for sharing!
I hope you make it back one day, it’s quite an amazing city!
I‘m thinking of going to NYC in fall – thank you for the tips!
You’re welcome! Enjoy your trip!
Great post! I think NYC is great to visit any time of the year but then again, I’m biased since I live here. I agree, if it’s your first time and you’re looking to be right in the heart of the city, it’s best to stay in Manhattan. On a return trip when you’re more familiar with that city, you can venture out to the outer boroughs.
That is our plan! We were able to see a lot of the “tourist attractions” but on our next visit this summer we’re hoping to see other boroughs – any suggestions?
It is great to stay very central when you visit NYC for a better time. Love being able to walk to so many places and not have to lose time in transportation. And good to remind people to take a little money to splurge on those things you don’t want to miss in the Big Apple.
It can be really helpful to use the CityPass or Hop-on-Hop-off buses too. Especially if you plan on doing most of the popular attractions.
I’ve always thought of NYC as a place best done with someone who knows the city …
Totally agree on the timing! Spring is the best time to visit the city, the weather is perfect!
Yea, we went in August and the heat was just, unbearable lol
